Static Daddy: From Audiobook Narrator to Author

How Jimmy MacGregor’s debut romance novella, written under the pen name Jimmy VA, brings together storytelling, technology and emotional connection.

I spend much of my working life interpreting other writers’ characters. Static Daddy, published under my pen name Jimmy VA, gave me the chance to create a story and cast of my own, bringing together my experience as an audiobook narrator and my lifelong love of reading.

A romance shaped by connection

Static Daddy is my debut romance novella. Its premise explores intimacy, vulnerability and the blurred boundary between technology and human emotion. Those themes made voice, conversation and the way people reveal themselves central to the writing.

Writing with a narrator’s ear

Narration has taught me to pay close attention to rhythm, dialogue and the emotional purpose behind a line. While writing, I could hear how conversations might be performed and where a pause could carry as much weight as a sentence.

Being an avid reader matters too. Reading widely helps me notice what makes a character feel convincing and what keeps an emotional arc moving without losing its humanity.

From the page to audio

The Static Daddy audiobook is coming soon. A short Static Daddy audiobook teaser is already available alongside my other narration demos. The recording uses the same treated studio and production workflow described in the studio article.
